SITE PREPARATION
On select projects, A-Turf performs sitework necessary for an A-Turf synthetic grass field installation. Below are typical scopes of work A-Turf performs.

Removal of old synthetic grass system and patch existing elastic layer prior to new A-Turf synthetic grass installation.
Excavation for converting field from natural grass to synthetic grass.
Nailer system installation for perimeter turf attachment.
Installation of drainage systems that ensure maximum drainage capabilities.
Crushed stone base construction.
Fine grading that’s professionally done so the completed crushed stone base meets specifications.

CRUSHED STONE BASE

The overwhelming majority of synthetic grass fields are installed on some variation of a crushed stone base. A sound base is critical to the long-term performance and aesthetics of the field. There are three fundamental characteristics of a properly constructed crushed stone base:

Planarity ...The synthetic grass field will reflect the finished grade of the base. A base free of undulations (low and high spots) and other imperfections is required. It is imperative that the crushed stone base be graded to specification.

Porosity ...The proper mix of stone sizes and types is necessary to achieve percolation to the drainage pipes.

Compaction ...Once again, the proper mix of stone sizes and types is required ... this time, to achieve the specified compaction level. Adequate compaction will prevent undesired post-installation crushed stone base settlement.

A-Turf has the capability to construct crushed stone bases. In some cases, others construct the crushed stone base and leave fine grading to A-Turf. In other cases, A-Turf installs the synthetic grass over the crushed stone base built by others.

Regardless of the company contracted to do the base construction, proper materials and equipment – and construction techniques – are critical, and necessary, to a sound base.
