ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Despite the NFL lockout, there's plenty of activity at Ralph Wilson Stadium Tuesday.

While NFL players and owners argue over how much green they’ll get in the next contract, the Bills are going to be rolling in some brand-new green and that will benefit a school or park in western New York.

A Turf, of Cheektowaga, is busy Tuesday afternoon installing a brand-new field at Ralph Wilson Stadium. It replaced the eight-year-old surface. This is a big deal for the company because it is their first project at an NFL stadium.

The new field will have a larger logo at mid field and blue end zones with white Bills letters.

Erie County is paying for the project and they’re going to donate the old turf. Any school, park, town or non-profit organization that can raise the money for installation can grab some or all of the 86,000 square feet of NFL green.

“If a non for profit could say they’ve got a fundraiser to prepare the field, and in doing it they get the turf for nothing, I mean that’s sometimes the energy that you need when people know that they’re dollars are going to be leveraged beyond just that one simple use. This is an opportunity as you know, you might come around every ten years or so,” said County Executive Chris Collins.

Jim Dobmeier of A Turf said, “We’ve had the contract since roughly March and to see the reality of what we’ve been anticipating is exciting and of course, to be able to be part of the process for your hometown team, especially the way I think the way the Bills are headed, I think they’re headed in a good direction from a football stand point and I’m really excited about the upcoming season.”

A Turf has done about 250 fields around the country, including the local high school projects at St. Joe’s and Canisius High Schools. This field is going to be similar, it’s those green grass fibers where they put rubber and sand to replicate dirt and Dobmeier said it’s going to feel and play like a natural grass surface
