A-Turf Field Selected For Mid-American Conference Opener in Buffalo

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Central Michigan University baseball team fell in shocking fashion in its Mid-American Conference opener Saturday afternoon against Buffalo, giving up five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to fall 5-4.

The contest was played at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y., due to its [A-Turf] synthetic turf field.

By giving up five runs in the ninth inning, the Chippewas (9-11, 0-1 MAC) squandered another impressive outing by sophomore starter Jordan Foley. In seven innings of work, Foley did not allow a run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

Foley was handed a 3-0 lead to work with following a three-spot by CMU in the second inning. Logan Regnier drove in Morgan Oliver and Noel Santos with a two-run triple, while Pat MacKenzie followed with a bunt single that brought in Regnier following an error. The contest continued that way until the ninth inning when the Chippewas tacked on an insurance run via a Nolan Regnier RBI triple that scored Logan Regnier.

That appeared to be plenty of scoring for Central Michigan with the way the game had progressed to that point, but the Bulls (11-9, 1-0) battled back off the relief pitching of Blake Louscher and Matt Trowbridge (0-2).

The first two runs were charged to Louscher, while a bases loaded triple by Jason Kanzler off Trowbridge cleared the bases and tied the score at 4-4. Alex Baldock followed with a walk-off RBI double to give Buffalo the victory.

Trowbridge allowed three earned runs on two hits with two walks in one-third of an inning. Prior to that, Louscher was credited with two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout.

Logan Regnier led the CMU offense as he went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, while also walking once. Santos was 1-for-2 with a walk. Central Michigan will complete the three-game series with Buffalo Sunday as a doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
