Multi-Sport Fields Can Save You Money in the Long Run

There’s no question – investing in a synthetic grass field is a big decision. But, knowing that the dollars you spend on one field can benefit an entire athletic program goes a long way in the decision-making process. Makes sense – the more you can get out of one purchase – the better. And while some athletic directors and athletes are sold on natural grass – it doesn’t always make “cents” in the long run. Unlike natural grass, which can be damaged by adverse weather conditions and through overuse, synthetic grass fields are built to withstand year-round, daily activity. For many schools, a single field is used as home turf for football, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, baseball and marching band. But, why stop there? When I said year-round, daily activity – what I was really saying was that a synthetic field can be used infinitely more times than natural grass. That’s right – infinitely more. It’s that benefit alone that allows many schools to open up the field for community use or for use by other outside organizations – without fear of field damage. When you add it all up – it’s suddenly easier to calculate the value of just one synthetic field. A-Turf synthetic turf fields are also environmentally friendly, using approximately three pounds of recycled rubber per square foot in its infill and saving millions of gallons of water and the use of hundreds of pounds of chemicals per year. As a low maintenance field, there’s never a need to mow.
