The New York Jets’ scrimmage on Saturday at SUNY-Cortland could have an ever bigger feel to it.
After practice Wednesday, New York coach Rex Ryan said he’d like to move the scrimmage to the school’s main football stadium. In past years, the competitive workout has been held on one of the practice fields behind the stadium.
But Ryan praised the quality of recently installed new turf on the football field, making him feel more comfortable putting his players on it in a hitting situation.
“When the lights come on, that old saying, the cream will rise to the top. That’s what you look for,” he said. “Any time you put the ball down and it’s live, there’s great competition. I think it will be a good experience for the fans, and I know it will be a great experience for us.’’
As of Wednesday afternoon, no official decision had been made about the scrimmage’s location.
The scrimmage will be held from 6-9 p.m. Admission is still free, although parking is $5.
