Overview

Shaker Heights City School District in Shaker Heights, OH, sees itself as a trailblazer in education excellence. That’s because it became the first school district in the Greater Cleveland area —and one of only a handful of districts across the United States— to provide the International Baccalaureate Programme to students in all grade levels. This mission of excellence carries through to its sports teams. In order to provide its students with the most cutting-edge playing surface available, the turf field at the high school now features an A-Turf® Titan DiamondBlade system.

Key Challenges and Solutions 

The existing turf field at Shaker Heights High School was worn out, since multiple sports teams used it and because the field was 12-years-old. Unaware of who to turn to for the installation of a new turf field, Shaker Heights High School was referred to A-Turf by a neighboring school that had a good experience. 

The new A-Turf Titan DiamondBlade system installed at Shaker Heights High is the first of its kind ever installed in Northeast Ohio. The turf system features the industry’s highest-grade dual fiber system, which provides reinforced strength to ensure unparalleled durability, the look and feel of natural grass, and features a 10-year warranty, which is two years more than the industry average. 

What made this project unique was how quickly it was completed. Once the old field was removed, it only took two weeks to install the DiamondBlade system. As a result, the field was completed sooner than expected, so fall sports teams could begin practicing on it over the summer. This quick turnaround was due to a top quality installation crew with the proper manpower. SCG served as the general contractor.
