Southeastern University (SEU) is a Christ-centered institution of higher learning with more than 2,000 students located in Lakeland, FL. As part of the Sun Conference, SEU offers more than 18 varsity sports, including football. To ensure their Division 1 football team continued to perform at its best, SEU replaced their field with an A-Turf® Titan DiamondBlade system.
SEU was already familiar with A-Turf because they installed their previous field in 2014. This field included ShockPad, a rubber base mat that provides the most natural and playable shock absorption in the industry when used in conjunction with an A-Turf system.
The new Titan DiamondBlade turf system provides a revolutionary advancement in synthetic turf technology. With the industry’s highest-grade dual fiber system, this innovative turf solution offers reinforced strength, ensuring unparalleled durability. Boasting low maintenance requirements and exceptional performance, Titan DiamondBlade stands as the premier choice for modern sports facilities.
To prepare the SEU football field for its new turf system, the existing water cannons were capped, since they were no longer in use, and the stone base was re-graded to restore ideal planarity. Once these steps were completed, the existing 10mm ShockPad was reinstalled along with some new rolls. Next, the Titan DiamondBlade system was then placed on top. The finished field features game lines, colorful end zones, and the SEU logo in the center of the field.
Russ Caci, from A-Turf did an excellent job managing this project. SEU is incredibly happy with its new field, because the G-max report shows that, even in its second life, the ShockPad is producing excellent results in combination with the Titan turf system.
G-max measures the shock attenuation of a turf system, specifically related to the likelihood of a player getting a concussion from hitting their head on the playing surface. Ideally, the system should spread shock laterally as far as possible versus the shock bouncing right back up vertically into an athlete’s head and body. The lower the G-max number, the better. The G-max rating for the new SEU field is 105. As a benchmark, natural grass in its best condition has a G-max rating between 85 and 115; so, the SEU football field tested right in the sweet spot!
The SEU is happy to provide a professional Division 1 football field that not only protects its student athletes through exceptional safety and durability but also offers outstanding playability and a visually stunning playing surface.
